Free online video: Lage Raho Munna Bhai: fine sequel

Lage Raho Munna Bhai: fine sequel

It's always fun to watch 'Circuit' even though he doesn't get enough of a role in a Sanjay Dutt movie. It was worth watching Lage Raho Munna Bhai, the sequel to Munna Bhai MBBS.

Enjoy!

Outsourcing Bollywood

Couldn't resist passing this along as well! Some of these are really old videos from the early days of video.google.com as it started to come online.

I know, I know! Not as much fun. But then to continue the outsourcing theme, here's a fun episode from The Simpsons!

Have fun!

Apsara Wannabes

Apsara Wannabes

I guess Bollywood has had some converts around the world. We can expect this after all since it's a small world after all. Enjoy these 3 videos!

Bheja Fry: A different kinda comedy

Loved it! Terrific acting, great concept! Though it started out a bit slow, it picked up speed when it mattered. And I had never thought I could like Milind Soman and though mostly he had to stand around and laugh, it was still great. There were some uncomfortable moments around an Indian Muslim rooting for Pakistan in an India-Pakistan cricket match, but it's all good.

Enjoy the show!!

Hungama: Beautiful Comedy

Hungama: Beautiful Comedy

Recently, I managed to catch one of my favorite movies - Hungama - once again. This movie, though not perfect, manages to bring quite a few elements together to make for some good situational comedy.

Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav are now well established as good comedy actors, but it was fun to see Akshaye Khanna in a comedic turn.

Rimi Sen was pretty though her ultra fast dialog delivery made it seem like a dub movie from South. Some of the South Indian languages are denser than Hindi, or at least the movie dialogs tend to be. When they are dubbed in Hindi, the lip movements have to accommodate a lot of dialog. Hence the super fast speaking! Dunno if that was the case with this movie.

It's available online in several chunks. Here they are in sequence. Enjoy!

Bipasha Basu: Bengali Apsara

After Madhuri Dixit, Bipasha Basu has probably done the most to push the envelope further. While in a different league than Madhuri, Bipasha has her own place in Bollywood, and was recently voted the hottest Asian woman by a British group (Madhuri was the second).

Given her western style, Bipasha typically acts in remakes of hit western movies like Jism which was the (unofficial) remake of Body Heat. Since bollywood movie makers don't like to mess with a hit movie when they are copying it, most such movies use Goa as a locale since it's easier to bring some of the background elements in that place. Here's a song from the movie. Like her other songs, and for that matter most Bollywood songs, viewer discretion is advised!

With the rise in popularity of item numbers, it is an easy way to pick some cool moolah, and here's Bipasha in a recent hit - Beedi Jalaye Le - from Omkara, which was based on Shakespeare's Othello.

Ajnabee was yet another remake of Alfred Hitchcock. To keep things simpler, this time the locale was Switzerland. The movie 'raised' people's expectations by hints of the taboo subject of wife swapping widely shown in the trailers.

Bipasha played a tarot card reader in an almost frame by frame copy of the movie The Gift where Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth fame) plays that role. Her typical stuff was handled instead by Amrita Arora and of course the item number O What a Babe got the most fame. But here she is a relatively mute performance.

Bipasha recently received critical acclaim for the movie Corporate where she acted as a fixer executive at a soft drinks company. The movie was rather different from her usual fare, and she was nicely paired with K K Menon.

Aishwarya Rai World Apsara

Aishwarya Rai is rumored to have lost her Miss India crown in 1994 to Sushmita Sen due to a trip on the ramp during the show. As a runner up, she ended up going to the Miss World competition, and that year, India ruled the beauty scene with Sushmita willing the Miss Universe title and Aish, as she's popularly known, winning the Miss World. As was expected, both tried their hands at acting. Aish is clearly the more successful of the two.

While she got her big break in the south first, she soon came to Bollywood with a movie with Bobby Deol whose story was neatly lifted from the Robert Downey Jr romance Only You. Here's the song Thoda Sa Pagla from that movie and you can see shades of Madhuri's Choli Ke Peechhe dance moves in there.

Her western looks didn't work very well in the Hindi cinema world and eventually it fell upon the showman Subhash Ghai to make her a bit hit with Taal. Here's a beautiful song Ishq Bina with Aishwarya and Akshaye Khanna.

Here's another song from the same movie - Taal Se Taal Mila.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in the same year - 1999 - finally got her the well deserved place in Bollywood and started her down the path of becoming the recipient of the crown from Madhuri Dixit. Here's the popular song Nimbooda from that movie.

Shaadi.com Matrimonials

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam also showed the terrific chemistry between Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai as can be seen in the popular number Dholi Taro below.

She's probably best known for the role of Paro in the umpteenth remake of Devdas. This movie also brought Madhuri back after her marriage and gave her one of her biggest hits. Here's a hit song Dola Re Dola from that movie.

Item numbers are an easy way of making a ton of money for the pretty actresses. Karishma Kapoor is rumored to have been miffed by the fact that Aish's item number - Ishq Kamina - in Shakti upstaged her role as the heroine in the movie in 2002.

Her romance with Salman broke rather violently and among other things, that also broke things between Shah Rukh and her who tried to patch them up. She found solace in the arms of Vivek Oberoi and the couple had decent chemistry in their movie - Kyun Ho Gaya Na in 2004. Here's a song Aao Naa from the movie.

It didn't go anywhere, but that's where she got close to the mighty Bachchan khandan. She almost managed to upstage Rani Mukherjee with her item number in Bunty Aur Babli where she danced seductively with both the father and the son together in the superhit song Kajra Re in 2005.

Ek Chidiya, Anek Chidiya

While not quite an apsara, or even real, this TV character captured the hearts of Indians when it appeared on Doordarshan the venerable government owned TV channel. The story of strength in unity was presented in a cute hand drawn animation of a story of a bunch of sparrows who manage to escape a trap by acting in unison.

Doordarshan had several such pieces played out over time and later on, during Rajeev Gandhi days, we had the Mera Bharat Mahaan series. And then of course the public service ads - Marzi Hai Aapki, Aakhir Sar Hai Aapka!

Enjoy Ek Chidiya!
